RV Camping Near I-49: Best Places to Stay in Southwest Missouri
I-49 is one of the great underappreciated road trip corridors in the Midwest. Running from Kansas City down through Joplin, Neosho, and into Arkansas, it connects a surprising range of destinations — urban and rural, historical and recreational — and it does it through some genuinely beautiful country.
If you're traveling I-49 by RV, here's what to know about where to stay in southwest Missouri.
The I-49 Corridor in Southwest Missouri
The stretch of I-49 between Joplin and the Arkansas border covers about 30 miles and passes through Newton County — one of the most scenic and historically rich counties in the state. Neosho is the county seat and the natural stopping point for travelers on this stretch.
The highway is well-maintained, grades are manageable for most rigs, and the exits are spaced reasonably. If you've been white-knuckling mountain roads in other parts of the country, southwest Missouri is a welcome relief.
