The Best RV Camping Destinations in Southwest Missouri
Southwest Missouri is an underrated corner of a state that's full of good RV country. Here are the destinations worth knowing about if you're rolling through this part of the Ozarks.
Neosho — The Base Camp
Stage Stop Campground in Neosho is the natural home base for exploring southwest Missouri by RV. Full hookups, good site access, and central positioning relative to everything else on this list. George Washington Carver National Monument, Morse Park, Big Spring Park, and the historic downtown are all within a short drive.
Joplin
Thirty minutes north of Neosho on I-49, Joplin is a real city with museums, dining, and a history that's both compelling and sobering — the 2011 tornado that struck Joplin is part of the city's modern story, and the recovery is a remarkable chapter in American community resilience. The George A. Spiva Center for the Arts and the Joplin Museum Complex are both worth a visit.
Noel and the Elk River
About 30 miles south of Neosho, Noel sits on the Elk River and serves as a hub for float trips and outdoor recreation. The Ozarks landscape in this corner of Missouri — the McDonald County area — is some of the most scenic in the state. Good campground options along the river.
Roaring River State Park
About an hour east of Neosho, Roaring River is one of Missouri's premier trout fishing destinations. The state park has its own campground and offers hiking in addition to the famous trout fishing in Roaring River Spring Branch.
Table Rock Lake Area
An hour to an hour and a half east, Table Rock Lake is a full destination — boating, fishing, Branson nearby, and significant campground infrastructure around the lake. A longer stay or a dedicated trip rather than a day trip, but worth building into a southwest Missouri itinerary.
Bentonville, Arkansas
About 50 minutes south, Bentonville has become one of the most interesting small cities in the region. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is world-class. The mountain biking trail network is internationally recognized. The food scene is genuinely good. Stage Stop puts you close enough to make it a day trip.
