Things to Do in Joplin, Missouri: A Visitor's Guide
Joplin is 30 minutes north of Stage Stop Campground on I-49 and has more going on than most visitors expect.
History and Museums
The Joplin Museum Complex covers the city from mining boom to modern era. The 2011 tornado that killed 161 people and the community's remarkable recovery is a story worth knowing. The Dorothea B. Hoover Historical Museum and Tri-State Mineral Museum are part of the complex.
Art
The George A. Spiva Center for the Arts is a legitimate regional institution with rotating exhibitions and a permanent collection. A cultural destination that surprises people expecting less from a mid-sized Midwest city.
Route 66
Historic Route 66 runs through Joplin and the city has preserved that heritage. The Joplin stretch connects to the broader Route 66 experience across Missouri.
Outdoor Recreation
Wildcat Glades Conservation Area offers trails, fishing, and natural landscape within the city limits. Shoal Creek provides additional outdoor access.
Food and Dining
Joplin has a legitimate restaurant scene. Ask locals where to eat ā you'll get better answers than any review site.
