What to Pack for a Weekend Cabin Stay

A cabin stay is the happy medium of camping packing. You need less than a tent camping trip but more than a hotel stay. Here's the practical list.

Bedding and Comfort

Confirm with your cabin whether bedding is provided. If not, bring sheets, pillowcases, and a blanket or sleeping bag. A pillow from home is always worth the space — it's one of the things that most affects sleep quality.

Kitchen and Food

Find out what kitchen equipment your cabin provides. At minimum, bring your own coffee supplies — coffee in the morning at a cabin is one of life's reliable pleasures, and you don't want to discover the cabin has no coffee maker.

Bring groceries for at least two meals. Cooking in a cabin kitchen, even a simple one, is part of the experience. Breakfast and dinner in the cabin, lunch out exploring.

Snacks. Always more snacks than you think.

Outdoor Gear

Comfortable walking shoes for trails and parks. A light jacket and a rain layer — Missouri weather changes. Bug spray for evenings outside.

If you're fishing: gear, license, and a cooler for any catch. If you're hiking: a day pack with water and snacks.

Campfire Supplies

Check whether your cabin has fire ring access. If so: a lighter, fire starters, and locally purchased firewood. Don't transport firewood across county or state lines.

Entertainment

Cards, a board game, books. A cabin weekend without screens requires something to do in the evening beyond the campfire. Pack accordingly.

The One Thing People Always Forget

A reusable water bottle. You're going to be outside and moving. Staying hydrated is easier when you're not hunting for a plastic water bottle.
