Martha Jane Canary, better known as Calamity Jane, was a frontierswoman known for her tough demeanor, sharp shooting, and wild exploits across the Northern Plains. She claimed to have been a scout for General Custer and was a fixture in Deadwood, South Dakota, where she became one of the most colorful characters of the Old West.
